Flight searches in Eastern Europe rose 9% year-over-year as airfare drops attract more travelers to the region.

Travel demand is climbing in 2026 as falling airfares open up international travel to more people. Data shows flight searches have risen by 9% compared to the previous year, while domestic fares have dipped by 3% and international fares by 10%. This cost reduction, paired with expanded flight networks, is redirecting travelers toward previously underrated destinations.

Eastern Europe stands out as the region with the strongest growth, claiming seven spots among the top ten trending destinations worldwide. Cities such as Prague, Sofia, and Krakow are experiencing particularly sharp increases in interest, with flight searches up 180%, 136%, and 106% respectively. The region’s affordability, cultural attractions, and improved air connectivity are making it a top choice for visitors.

Outside Europe, Christchurch, New Zealand, has become the fastest-growing destination for American travelers, with searches jumping 194% year-over-year.

Major events and pop culture influences are also shaping travel decisions. Milan is seeing a 15% increase in searches ahead of the 2026 Winter Games, while Las Vegas has rebounded strongly, with flight interest up 18% due to new entertainment residencies.

Budget travelers are benefiting from steep fare discounts in Eastern Europe and parts of Italy. Sarajevo and Split have seen the most significant price drops, with fares falling 36% and 33% respectively. Meanwhile, domestic destinations such as Punta Gorda, Florida, New York, and Raleigh, North Carolina, remain the most economical options for U.S. travelers.

Planning for summer 2026 trips is already accelerating, with international searches up 9% compared to last year. Long-haul airfare has decreased by 12%, making trips to Asia and Europe more attractive, with fares down 16% and 14% respectively. The Middle East is also seeing a 35% increase in searches, driven by new flight routes, while the Caribbean continues to draw warm-weather travelers, with searches up 15%.
