Delta Air Lines is expanding its European route network for summer 2027, adding nonstop flights from Boston to Venice and from Detroit to Athens. The Boston-Venice route will operate four times weekly on an Airbus A330-300, starting May 7, while the Detroit-Athens route will run three times weekly on an A330-200, beginning June 8.
Venice becomes Delta’s 13th long-haul summer destination out of Boston, and its third US gateway to the city. The airline is also increasing its Boston-Milan service to daily next year, as part of an Italy schedule that will offer 17 peak-day departures and over 30,000 nonstop seats a week.
“Italy continues to be an incredibly popular destination for New England travelers, and we are excited to add Venice to our growing list of international destinations,” said Sharon Williams, Massport’s executive director of aviation. The new service will provide passengers with another opportunity to experience Italy’s culture, history, and tourism, while strengthening ties between the two regions.
The Detroit-Athens route marks the city’s first nonstop flight to Greece, and will connect to over 40 domestic destinations through the Detroit hub. “For the first time at DTW, travelers in Southeast Michigan will have nonstop access to Athens, one of the world’s most iconic destinations,” said Chad Newton, CEO of the Wayne County Airport Authority.
Delta is also extending its transatlantic season, with earlier starts for several routes, including New York-JFK flights to Catania, Porto, Prague, and Copenhagen. The airline’s Rome service from Minneapolis-St. Paul and Detroit will return in early March, followed by Seattle-Rome in April. Additionally, the Austin-Paris flight, which launches on March 27, will offer daily nonstop service on an A330-900neo.
“Customers continue to seek more flexibility, convenience, and choice when traveling to Europe, whether they are planning a spring escape, a summer vacation, or a fall getaway,” said Jeff Arinder, Delta’s vice president of international network planning. By adding new European destinations and extending service on several popular routes, Delta is giving customers more choice, greater flexibility and more opportunities to travel when and how they want.
