Hong Kong has secured a five-year agreement to host Vinexpo Asia annually from 2027 to 2031, replacing the event’s previous alternate-year scheduling. The deal, signed between the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and global trade-event organizer Vinexposium, will begin with the 8–10 June 2027 edition at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Organizers are exploring citywide dining and cultural activities to complement the core trade exhibition, though no finalized program has been announced. The move strengthens Hong Kong’s position as a hub for international business events and supports its visitor economy through recurring demand for hotels, meeting facilities, and hospitality services.

Partnership Details and Signing Ceremony

The five-year memorandum of understanding was signed on 30 October 2026, with HKTB Executive Director Anthony Lau and Vinexposium Overseas Events Director Déborah Sanchez formalizing the agreement. The ceremony included Hong Kong officials such as HKTB Chairman Dr Peter Lam and Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law, alongside French representatives from Bordeaux, including Deputy Mayor Fabien Robert and a chamber of commerce official. The partnership reflects longstanding commercial and cultural ties between Hong Kong and Bordeaux, a key region in the global wine industry. Vinexpo Asia, a business-to-business event, serves wine and spirits professionals, including producers, importers, distributors, and buyers, offering a predictable annual platform in Asia for industry networking and trade.

The transition to an annual format aims to provide exhibitors and international buyers with a more consistent meeting point, reducing the logistical challenges of an alternate-year schedule. The HKTB emphasized that the agreement aligns with Hong Kong’s strategy to attract higher-value meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE), which drive economic activity across multiple sectors. While the HKTB has not released projected attendance figures or economic impact estimates under the new arrangement, the recurring nature of the event is expected to sustain demand for business travel services and hospitality infrastructure.

Citywide Expansion Plans and Industry Implications

The announcement coincided with Hong Kong’s Wine & Dine Festival, an event the HKTB views as complementary to Vinexpo Asia. Industry leaders highlighted the benefits of a stable, annual hosting location for long-term planning. Philippe Tapie of the Bordeaux Gironde Chamber of Commerce and Industry noted that reliability allows producers and buyers to commit resources more effectively. For Hong Kong, the five-year commitment reinforces relationships with the global wine and spirits community while linking international trade to local culinary traditions and hospitality networks. Trade visitors can access destination information through Discover Hong Kong, while event-specific details are managed by Vinexpo Asia organizers.
