Configuring a Fast Internet Router

We cannot imagine life without fast internet. Even in business, your productivity will suffer if you do not have fast internet. You therefore need to buy a new faster router. After buying it, you need to set it up. You shall need some steps to follow in doing this.

You need to choose a convenient place on the house where all devices can be reached by its network Ensure that that location is not a Wi-Fi dead spot. If the optimum position is far, you can get a cable that shall make the connection to the gateway Ethernet port. Alternatively, you can opt for the more elegant mesh-style router. It is achieved when a node if at the gateway, then the rest are placed all over the house. This way, all corners are covered by the network. More information on this is on the Router Login Netgear website. The router needs to be on a flat surface or table all the while.

You need to set up a gateway. There are those routers that come with a WAN port for connecting to a gateway already set. For others, they shall pick form those available and assign them as WAN or LAN. You shall begin by disabling the current router. Even if it is part of the modem, you need to. You will have eliminated competition between two routers. Having both make a meshwork scenario impossible. Find the gateway’s IP address, enter it into a web browser to get to its configuration page. Go to the allocation mode tab and click on passthrough option. If you can’t see this, call your ISP. They may have blocked you there. Now is the time to turn off the modem’s Wi-Fi access point. It will be pointless to leave it on. You then need to reboot the gateway.

Fix the gateway to the new router. Using an ethernet cable, connect the gateway from its LAN port to the router on its WAN port. Next, connect a PC to the router and the phone line to the modem. Switch on the gateway. This might take time for any response to be seen, so be patient. Then switch on the router and wait.

Proceed to change the admin password on the wireless router. There might be a smartphone app for configuring the wireless router. If not, use the browser-based option. Enter the router’s IP address and you’ll see what you need. You can use the supplied admin username and password. Then immediately change the password. Store that password safely.

Let the firmware update run. It may not be the latest. These updates usually come on automatically. Wait for it to finish then reboot it. You then need to set a new password for your Wi-Fi network. There shall be a connectivity tab for you to do this. You should rely on the WAP2 encryption, seeing as the WEP option is not adequate for this.
